Luz Hutchins

Luz Hutchins established the Spanish Language Center in 1986 as a continuation of her lifelong career in education, which began in Mexico where she taught as an elementary school teacher. Her dream as a little girl was always to be a teacher — and she has been teaching ever since.

After moving to San Diego, Luz began working as a Spanish instructor and in 1986, drawing on all her experience, developed a unique Interactive-Visual method of teaching which enables students to be successful in their goals. This method — combining visual aids, transparencies, and sustained conversation — has been refined over nearly four decades and is what makes SLC distinct from every language app or tutoring service.

Luz is also the author of the textbooks used at the school — the Spanish Grammar & Conversation series, written specifically for SLC’s curriculum. Students who learn here are learning from a system designed by the teacher herself, not a third-party publisher.

SLC is considered by its students to be the best — and the most beautiful — place to study the Spanish Language in San Diego. That reputation has been built one student at a time over 38 years.

SLC is considered according to our students the best and the most beautiful place to study the Spanish Language in San Diego.
